Robert Bateman Day

Took the boys for afternoon tea yesterday, complete with dainty sandwich triangles, raisin scones with Devonshire cream and a puffy, brown tea cosy for our pot of Orange Pekoe.

Not sure how we got on the subject (afternoon tea conversations can be sooo random) but Kje mentioned that he tried haggis. Hmmm.... news to me.

"I'm impressed. When did you do that?"

"At school, on Robert Bateman day," he replied.

Smile.

"Um, do you mean Robbie Burns day?"

"Oh ya, that one."

I think Robert Bateman would get a kick out of having his own day, not to mention kids eating haggis in honour of it.

Ah, Iceland

I thought I would share a few shots from my favourite co-pilot and photographer assistant's recent trip to Iceland.

Can you find the house tucked into the hill?

Holli & Millree Get Married!

I was truly honoured to be the photographer for Holli & Millree's glamourous wedding last weekend. The event took place within an elegantly restored heritage building, previously a bank (yes, that is the vault door in the photo below) and now home to the Segal Graduate School of Business in dowtown Vancouver. Both Holli & Millree looked classic, confident and very much in love. Here is a sneak peak:

Hallowe'en in March?

Just stumbled upon this photo again and thought I would relive the moment with you...'cause he looks too damn cute to just file away again in the deep dark depths of my photo archives. Happy Hallowe'en!

Butterfly Gardens Butterflies

One hour in tropical Butterfly Gardens was worth every cold penny I paid. I haven't been that warm...nay, sweaty... since last August. Nice, very, very nice! Just a few shots of fluttering friends I thought I would share in honour of longer days and.... hopefully...warmer ones to come.

Secret Agent Susan

Read this today:

"Scandinavian notebook maker Archie Grand produces high quality notebooks for designers, artists, secret agents and other breeds of charlatans, scoundrels and luminaries."

I want a secret agent notebook! How cool is that!!

More appropriately I should get a notebook for this year, my 40th birthday year. And I will fill it with adventures, clippings, secret messages, and mishaps from a year of living life in a plane, on a train, in a car, near and far, and on the edge.... of 39 that is.

We'll miss you Panda

I fluff and straighten his pillow while he brushes his teeth.
He climbs into bed, automatically curling up his legs and grabbing his World Wildlife Fund adopted red panda stuffie.
I pull his blue and green striped comforter over his shoulders and tuck it under his chin, then lie down beside him.
We face each other.

How are you doing, I ask him.
Ok.
Are you happy that Panda found a new home today.
Yah, he says with a smile. His eyes are closed and he is hugging his red panda tightly.
Yah, I say, me too.

I have photos to remember her by, he says, matter of factly.
That's true, you do. You have lots of photos.
He smiles.
Can you take one of the photos on the computer and blow it up for me like a poster so I can see her when I go to sleep every night, he asks.
Sure, I can do that.
He smiles again. His eyes are still closed and can't see my tears.

I love you.
I love you, too.

Somedays, like today, I truly believe there is nothing more important I do than give people photos that keep their memories alive. And here she is, still a sweetie, just a few months old:
